Grenoble airport, officially known as Grenoble-Isère Airport (GNB), is also known as Grenoble-Saint-Geovis airport. It is situated 40 km west of Grenoble and 2.5 km northwest of Saint-Étienne-de-Saint-Geovis. It was opened in when Grenoble hosted the Winter Olympics and in recent years has enjoyed considerable growth with many Low Cost Airlines now using it in the winter schedules.Grenoble Airport is served by British Airways, Central Wings, Easy Jet, Flyglobespan, Thomsonfly, WizzAir, and Ryanair. Unlike other airports servicing similar areas, such as Geneva and Lyon, Grenoble airport is only served by these few airlines so you may not find prices to be competitive.

Grenoble airport is located in the heart of Rhône-Alpes, a region composed of 15 regional massifs with close to 200 ski resorts, some famous spas and many beautiful lakes. Grenoble Airport is the perfect point of access to the southern part of the French Alps and some ski resorts in the North. The close proximity to ski resorts makes Grenoble airport a great choice, especially the proximity to the southern resorts of Alpe d'Huez and Les Deux Alpes, many people going to these resort fly into Grenoble. That said, it is just as easy to get to the other main French resortsas from Geneva or Lyon.
However, the airport is served by a limited number of airlines. Even though it is situated close to many ski resorts, sometimes the traffic around Grenoble can make for slow airport transfers from Grenoble airport. The airport has a small number of car rental companies and plenty of airport transfer service operators. If you are flying into Grenoble airport it is strongly advised that you get a private Grenoble airport transfer, as there are very limited alternatives.
Airport transfers to Alpe d’Huez is just over 1,5 hours. Autrans, Flumet, Le Pluynet, Le Collet d’Allevard, Gresse en Vercors, Prapontel, Vaujany, Villard Reculas, Villard de Lans, Oz-en-Oisans, Chamrousse and Les Deux Alps can take between one and two hours. A ski transfers from Grenoble airport can also get you to Méribel and the Three Valleys Ski Area. La Clusaz is another ski resort reachable within 2,5 hours. A three hour airport transfer will get you to the ski resorts Avoriaz, Flaine, La Plagne, Val Thorens, Val D'Isere and Tignes.

All Grenoble transfer times are approximate as they can be significantly affected by weather and traffic. Always leave plenty of time to ensure you catch your flight!
There is no rail link from Grenoble Airport so public transport options are limited. If you are unable to book a private Grenoble airport transfer it is possible to get to most ski resorts by taxi or a few car rental places are available to enable alternative transportation. Public transport itself is not a recommended option for transfers from Grenoble airport.
The nearest train station is 45 minutes away in the centre of Grenoble that will connect you with the two main train stations for skiing are Moutiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. For train times check official SNCF website. From here you will need to get a taxi, a private transfer or bus to your destination resort. although scheduled coaches are available from the airport to Grenoble city centre which takes 45 minutes, and from there connections are available to trains and buses to further destinations.
Most ski resorts nearby Grenoble can be reached somehow by bus on regular lines operated by the Conseil Général of Isère offers as « SkiLigne and Transaltitude.

Transaltitude provides transportation from Grenoble to Chamrousse every day in the winter season (from 23/12/2017 to 01/04/2018). Timetable on Transaltitude website. The regular line Transisère n°6010 provides transportation in the ski season from Gières to Chamrousse from Monday to Friday only.
Les Deux Alpes is the largest ski resort in the Dauphine region and, in winter, it makes up part of the Grande Galaxie ski area along with Alpe d’Huez, La Grave, Puy St Vincent and Vaujany. You can reach Les Deux Alpes via regular bus services. See timetable below

For groups of three or more it is often best to arrange a ski transfer in advance with one of the airport transfer operators. This is especially true at Grenoble airport where there are very limited alternatives to private transfers.
